Nordlanda's Elevated Design Philosophy
- Form, Function and Sustainability -
By Steven Anderson - Nordlanda Principal
Nordlanda's design philosophy is deeply rooted in my personal experiences and appreciation for the practical and aesthetic aspects of furniture. The idea of giving new life to wood by transforming it into beautiful and durable objects speaks to my generational connection with high quality craftsmanship.
Elegant & Functional
Growing up in a family of woodworkers and spending countless hours in and around sailboats that often utilized wooden components, I have always been aware of the connection and balance between utility and beauty in good design. The unique needs and functional requirements of sailboats left a lasting impression on me, reinforcing the belief that a good product must remain graceful and elegant while it serves its functional requirements.
Scandinavian, Japanese and American Influences
Influenced by Scandinavian, Japanese, and American Shaker design styles, I strive to create a harmonious balance between aesthetics and functionality in every piece I design. I am particularly drawn to natural materials like white marble, white oak, and walnut for their unique colors, textures, strength and durability which I believe add depth, character and longevity to my designs.
Sustainable & Natural
I also firmly believe that humans are part of nature, and our spirit thrives when we are connected to it. Both science and religion demonstrate the physiological importance of exposure to natural elements. Therefore, incorporating natural elements into our homes becomes essential for our well-being and harmony.
Sustainability is at the core of my design philosophy. By using high-quality, natural, and sustainable materials combined with expert craftsmanship, I aim to create furniture that stands the test of time and minimizes its environmental impact. I also consider the efficient use of resources and the potential for repurposing materials in the future to ensure that my designs are truly sustainable.
My personal values and beliefs are reflected in my work through my commitment to creating furniture that not only serves a functional purpose but also leaves a positive impact on the environment and our society.
